Submission Format
Western Folklore follows the Journal of American Folklore with regard to the format for contributors. Potential contributors are directed to the style guide for that publication. The format is also that of the Chicago Manual of Style, 14th edition, chapter 15 "Author-Date System," especially as illustrated in figure 15.7 of that publication. Western Folklore "Works Cited" (on separate pages, assembled last) entries contain author, year, title, volume and page numbers for articles.
Author-Date citations are used parenthetically in both the text and in any notes. Substantive notes are welcome, but are to be in conformity with the main text with regard to bibliographical citation. Authors are asked to avoid gender-specific language in their contributions.
All manuscripts submitted to Western Folklore must be on 81/2 by 11 or A4 standard size white paper, double-spaced throughout (including all quotations, all notes, and bibliographical references), with notes and works cited (in alphabetical order) on separate pages. The order of assembly is text, notes (separate pages), and references cited (separate pages). Please indicate whether the submission is available on diskette and in what format.
Contributions to Western Folklore should be submitted in duplicate, original and copy, and should be accompanied by return postage. Manuscripts from outside North America should be accompanied by return postage in the form of international reply coupons.
Western Folklore does not restrict itself to the professional
folklorist and welcomes submissions from all fields insofar as they deal
with folklore, interpreted broadly.
